this is where it all begins

with all the blogspots i've seen lately, i decided that i should share some unusual and hard-to find items of my own. none of these are available on cd; they are all from my private collection and i encoded them myself. i'm going to try and include a variety of items each week, sort of a 'something for everybody' type list. there'll be everything from dance music to world, from easy listening to new wave, and finally the downright unclassifiable. if anyone has any legitimate concerns about the music posted, please contact me and i will of course take appropriate action (ie, it'll disappear). that being said, let me tell you a little about tonight's offerings:

first we have the 1950s french songstress Jacqueline François. basically all i can tell you about her is that she's french and she sings songs. there were three or four albums on columbia, and at this point in time they are all exceedingly rare. however if you enjoy music that gives you the feeling of walking along the seine on an autumn afternoon, stopping at a little café for a glass of vin rouge and thoughts of yesterday, then this lady is the one you want. this is from the double 45 version of the album Mademoiselle de Paris (naturally this means that four songs are missing). if anyone likes her please let me know and i can rip her live lp, recorded at the plaza.

secondly we have another european singer, much better known than the first. this is a 7 inch 33 1/3 ep. the full title is Nico - Four Songs Recorded Live At CBGB, March 8, 1979. it was the first release from the velvet underground appreciation society, copyright 1980 on what goes on records (what goes on no. 1). the quality of the vinyl isn't the greatest, but the recording is highly listenable, with a great sense of 'you are there'.

finally we come to the only 45 (or any other type of vinyl, for that matter) ever issued by the thrown-together band Ad Infinitum, assembled from factory records gangmates Lindsay Reade (Tony Wilson's then-wife), Peter Hook (New Order) and some unnamed members of Stockholm Monsters. the single is the Joe Meek/Tornadoes classic Telstar, done, of course, the two extremely different ways. first off we have an electronic version, the vocals at the end even being run through a vocoder. the second side, Telstar In A Piano Bar, pretty well speaks for itself.

anyway, that's it for this time. please let me know if you're interested in this, and also which items you download and what you think of them. also, if you have any trouble with rapidshare or winrar please let me know and i'll try and be of assistance.
ps- you've probably noticed that there are no images. i'm working on that part.

Alas, the links are all broken. May I recommend Google Drive if you re-up them?
